Title
Comparative Clinical Effects of Erythritol,Glycine and Trehalose as Subgingival Air Polishing Powders on Non-operative Periodontal Treatment:A Network Meta- Analysis of Randomized Clinical Trial
Review Question
What are the different effects of erythritol, glycine and trehalose as subgingival air polishing powder on nonoperative periodontal treatment?
Study Type Included
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) will be included.
Condition Being Studied
Periodontal disease is an inflammatory and destructive disease involving four kinds of periodontal supporting tissues. It is caused by the immune inflammatory response of the gingiva caused by dental plaque, leading to the destruction of the periodontal attachment structure. Plaque control is a necessary measure for the prevention and treatment of periodontal disease, which is the focus of the basic treatment of periodontal disease. Subgingival curettage is performed by using a fine subgingival curettage device to locate the calculus and plaque on the root surface of the periodontal pocket. Glycine powder is biocompatible and can remove subgingival biofilm with less wear on root cementum and dentin. Erythritol is water-soluble and chemically stable. It is used as a food additive and artificial sweetener worldwide. It is suitable for air polishing and can effectively remove subgingival biofilms on root surfaces, and can bring patients a comfortable experience. Trehalose, a non-cariogenic disaccharide approved for food processing, has an abrasive effect on dental material similar to glycine.
Participant
Randomized controlled trials that enrolled patients in good general health, over 18 years of age, probing depth of more than 4mm, without implants and requiring treatment for periodontal disease. They had undergone periodontal treatment with subgingival air polishing and were followed up for 6 weeks or more.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Non-surgical periodontal treatment with subgingival air polishing was used, including hand and ultrasonic subgingival scaling. Air polished powders include erythritol, glycine and trehalose.
Comparator Control
No periodontitis treatment or a delayed treatment equal to that provided to the test group after the study period of follow-up.
Main Outcome
Probing depth(PD) , clinical attachment level (CAL) and bleeding on probing(BOP). Measures of effect Standard Mean Difference/Mean Difference
