Title
Comparitive evaluation of shear bond strength of calcium silicate based liners to RMGIC in resin composite restorations -A Systematic review and meta analysis
Review Question
Is there a difference in shear bond strength between calcium silicate based liners and RMGIC liners in resin composite restorations?
Study Type Included
In vitro studies (Since the shear bond strength can't be measured in-vivo or ex-vivo)
Condition Being Studied
For a composite restoration , the liner to composite resin bond strength is important for its longevity and success rate.Various liners used under composite restorations are newer calcium silicate based liners & conventional RMGIC. It remains controversial whether calcium silicate based liners or RMGIC show better bond strength to composite restoration.
Participant
The studies done on extracted permanent premolar or molar teeth, acrylic resin blocks and disk specimens were used to support the liners.
Animal
Human Disease Modelled
Intervention
Calcium silicate based liners such as MTA, Biodentine and TheraCal will be used as the intervention followed by etching and adhesive resin application.
Comparator Control
Resin modified glass ionomer ( RMGIC ) liner will be used as the control followed by etching and adhesive resin application.
Main Outcome
Shear bond strength is a simple evaluation procedure used to test the adhesion of dental adhesives .Shear bond strength testing is done in vitro using a universal testing machine and is expressed in Megapascal( Mpa) by dividing the peak force at the time of failure by the bonding area in newtons per square millimeter. Measures of effect Effect size will be used to compare the shear bond strength in different studies based on standardised mean difference.
Outcome Measure
Additional Outcome
The modes of failure(Adhesive/Cohesive or mixed type) examined under a stereomicroscope/SEM will be recorded. Measures of effect To assess and compare the mode of failure, number of events will be recorded within and between the surfaces.
Study Method
Systematic review
