本品为不规则碎片或粗粉。灰白色，碎片外面有时可见同心生长纹。质酥脆。断面有层纹。
检查
酸不溶性灰分 取本品粉末2g，置炽灼至恒重的坩埚中，炽灼至完全灰化，加入稀盐酸约20ml，照灰分测定法（通则2302）测定，不得过2.0%。 重金属及有害元素 照铅、镉、砷、汞、铜测定法（通则2321原子吸收分光光度法或电感耦合等离子体质谱法）测定，铅不得过5mg/kg，镉不得过0.3mg/kg，砷不得过2mg/kg，汞不得过0.2mg/kg，铜不得过20mg/kg。 饮片
炮制
蛤壳 洗净，碾碎，干燥。
贮藏
置干燥处。
鉴别
（1）本品粉末类白色。不规则状碎块，呈明显的颗粒性，有的表面可见较细密条纹与较宽条纹交织而成的网状纹理，较宽条纹平直或稍弯曲。 （2）取本品粉末4g，加稀盐酸30ml，即产生大量气泡，滤过，滤液用氢氧化钠试液调节pH值至5，静置，离心（转速为每分钟12000转）10分钟，取沉淀置15ml安瓿中，加6.0mol/L盐酸10ml, 150℃水解1小时。水解液蒸干，残渣加10%异丙醇-0.1mol/L盐酸溶液1ml使溶解，作为供试品溶液。另取蛤壳对照药材4g，同法制成对照药材溶液。照薄层色谱法（通则0502）试验，吸取上述两种溶液各2μl，分别点于同一硅胶G薄层板上，以正丁醇-冰醋酸-水-丙酮-无水乙醇-0.5%茚三酮丙酮溶液（40∶14∶12∶5∶4∶4）为展开剂，展开，取出，晾干，在105℃加热至斑点显色清晰。供试品色谱中，在与对照药材色谱相应的位置上，显相同颜色的斑点。
含量测定
取本品细粉约0.12g，精密称定，置锥形瓶中，加稀盐酸3ml，加热至微沸使溶解，加水100ml与甲基红指示液1滴，滴加氢氧化钾试液至显黄色，继续多加10ml，再加钙黄绿素指示剂少量，用乙二胺四醋酸二钠滴定液（0.05mol/L）滴定至溶液黄绿色荧光消失而显橙色。每1ml乙二胺四醋酸二钠滴定液（0.05mol/L）相当于5.004mg的碳酸钙（CaCO3）。 本品含碳酸钙（CaCO3）不得少于95.0%。
功能与主治
清热化痰，软坚散结，制酸止痛；外用收湿敛疮。用于痰火咳嗽，胸胁疼痛，痰中带血，瘰疬瘿瘤，胃痛吞酸；外治湿疹，烫伤。
性味与归经
苦、咸，寒。归肺、肾、胃经。
用法与用量
6～15g，先煎，蛤粉包煎。外用适量，研极细粉撒布或油调后敷患处。
