本品呈不规则皱缩状的块片，厚约1cm。表面黑褐色或棕褐色，凹凸不平。质坚硬，断面角质样，棕褐色或黑色。气微，味微甘而苦涩。
检查
水分 不得过12.0%（通则0832第二法）。 总灰分 不得过9.0%（通则2302）。
炮制
取何首乌片或块，照炖法（通则0213）用黑豆汁拌匀，置非铁质的适宜容器内，炖至汁液吸尽；或照蒸法（通则0213），清蒸或用黑豆汁拌匀后蒸，蒸至内外均呈棕褐色，或晒至半干，切片，干燥。 每100kg何首乌片（块），用黑豆10kg。 黑豆汁制法 取黑豆10kg，加水适量，煮约4小时，熬汁约15kg，豆渣再加水煮约3小时，熬汁约10kg，合并得黑豆汁约25kg。
贮藏
置干燥处，防蛀。

照何首乌项下的〔鉴别〕（2）项试验，显相同的结果。
浸出物
照醇溶性浸出物测定法（通则2201）项下的热浸法测定，用乙醇作溶剂，不得少于5.0%。
含量测定
二苯乙烯苷 避光操作。 取本品粉末（过四号筛）约0.2g，精密称定，照何首乌药材〔含量测定〕项下的方法测定。 本品按干燥品计算，含2，3，5，4′-四羟基二苯乙烯-2-O-β-D-葡萄糖苷（C20H22O9）不得少于0.70%。 游离蒽醌 照高效液相色谱法（通则0512）测定。 色谱条件与系统适用性试验 以十八烷基硅烷键合硅胶为填充剂；以甲醇-0.1%磷酸溶液（80∶20）为流动相；检测波长为254nm。理论板数按大黄素峰计算应不低于3000。 对照品溶液的制备 取大黄素对照品、大黄素甲醚对照品适量，精密称定，加甲醇分别制成每1ml含大黄素80μg、大黄素甲醚40μg的溶液，即得。 供试品溶液的制备 取本品粉末（过四号筛）约1g，精密称定，置具塞锥形瓶中，精密加入甲醇50ml，称定重量，加热回流1小时，取出，放冷，再称定重量，用甲醇补足减失的重量，摇匀，滤过，取续滤液，即得。 测定法 分别精密吸取对照品溶液与供试品溶液各10μl，注入液相色谱仪，测定，即得。 本品按干燥品计算，含游离蒽醌以大黄素（C15H10O5）和大黄素甲醚（C16H12O5）的总量计，不得少于0.10%。
功能与主治
补肝肾，益精血，乌须发，强筋骨，化浊降脂。用于血虚萎黄，眩晕耳鸣，须发早白，腰膝酸软，肢体麻木，崩漏带下，高脂血症。
