本品呈白色、淡黄色或粉红色的粉末；体轻，质松软而细腻光滑。气微，味微涩。
炮制
炉甘石 除去杂质，打碎。
贮藏
置干燥处。
鉴别
（1）取本品粗粉1g，加稀盐酸10ml，即泡沸，发生二氧化碳气，导入氢氧化钙试液中，即生成白色沉淀。 （2）取本品粗粉1g，加稀盐酸10ml使溶解，滤过，滤液加亚铁氰化钾试液，即生成白色沉淀，或杂有微量的蓝色沉淀。
含量测定
同药材，含氧化锌（ZnO）不得少于56.0%。
功能与主治
解毒明目退翳，收湿止痒敛疮。用于目赤肿痛，睑弦赤烂，翳膜遮睛，胬肉攀睛，溃疡不敛，脓水淋漓，湿疮瘙痒。
性味与归经
甘，平。归肝、脾经。
用法与用量
外用适量。
