呈不规则碎块状颗粒或鳞片状粉末。表面无明显棱角，棕黄色至金黄色，具金黄色光泽。碎块断面可见层纹。具滑腻感。质脆，易碎。气微，味淡。
炮制
金礞石 除去杂石。 煅金礞石 取净金礞石，照明煅法（通则0213）煅至红透。
贮藏
置干燥处。
鉴别
取本品碎片少量，置铁片上加热，即层裂或散裂，膨胀2～5倍，有的鳞片变成弯曲的蛭虫状；色泽变浅，重量减轻，可浮于水面。 饮片
功能与主治
坠痰下气，平肝镇惊。用于顽痰胶结，咳逆喘急，癫痫发狂，烦躁胸闷，惊风抽搐。
性味与归经
甘、咸，平。归肺、心、肝经。
用法与用量
多入丸散服，3～6g；煎汤10～15g，布包先煎。
