Disease Definition
NCI2016_NICHD_1602D:An infection of the kidney.|NCI2016_CTCAE_1602D:A disorder characterized by an infectious process involving the kidney.|NCI2016_CDISC_1602D:A tubulointerstitial inflammatory disease involving a spectrum of lesions affecting the tubules, interstitium and/or the pelvis of the kidney. Pyelonephritis can result from infections, both ascending and descending and following papillary necrosis and urothelial ulceration. Certain strains of rodents are particularly susceptible to developing spontaneous pyelonephritis and are used as animal models to assess antibiotic therapy. (INHAND)|NCI2016_02D:An inflammatory process affecting the kidney. The cause is most often bacterial, but may also be fungal in nature. Signs and symptoms may include fever, chills, flank pain, painful and frequent urination, cloudy or bloody urine, and confusion.|MSH2017_2016_08_12:Inflammation of the KIDNEY involving the renal parenchyma (the NEPHRONS); KIDNEY PELVIS; and KIDNEY CALICES. It is characterized by ABDOMINAL PAIN; FEVER; NAUSEA; VOMITING; and occasionally DIARRHEA.|HPO2016_07_04:An inflammation of the kidney involving the parenchyma of kidney, the renal pelvis (FMA:15575) and the kidney calices. [HPO:probinson]|CSP2006:inflammation of the kidney and its pelvis due to infection.

Infiltration of the inflammatory cells into the interstitial compartment results in EDEMA, increased spaces between the tubules, and tubular renal dysfunction.|CSP2006:diffuse or local inflammation and edema of the interstitial tissue of the kidney, including the tubules.
